Hair Loss & Change

  1. Hi Liz,
My son is on day 159 of TSW. He is losing large amounts of hair... it is coming out in clumps much like mine did when I went through chemo. How long did Jake lose hair for? How long until it started growing back in? At this point, my poor kid isn't going to have any hair left when school starts back up for him.
    Thank you,

    1. Hi Jill,

Jake had hair loss for about a month-6 weeks, and in big chunks like you describe, it was really worrying.
I read up about it and antioxidants is the thing you need for hair loss.. so I started getting Jake to eat heaps of onions, in every meal. Raw is the best, but if that's too hard, just bake them in organic olive oil.
After Jake started eating a lot of onion, it took about 2 weeks for his hair to stop falling out, and then it started to get really thick again. Seriously though, Jake ate onions every day for that reason.
I even read that you should (and we did this too) chop up a raw onion and put it inside a shower cap and put it on your sons head, leave it for about half an hour, do that every few days. It promotes and stimulates hair growth.
After that Jake's hair has been great ever since.
      Good luck Jill!

    2. I meant to also say after you have had the shower cap on, wash hair gently, massaging the scalp- but not for too long.
Try to keep the hair short, and don't wash too often.
